"Yes, but also no." Mando thinks on it for a moment. "You'd be lightyears beyond what the droids in my world can do. They can only do what they're programmed for. They can't think and feel and learn new things the way you can. You'd be something different."
"I don't know." He's from season two, cut him some slack. "The droids I knew didn't, but I didn't know very many. They were mostly mechanic droids who helped work on my ship. But then I knew another droid who sacrificed himself to save me and the kid. He'd been an assassin droid but was reprogrammed, but he hadn't been reprogrammed to do that."
It's been on Mando's mind a lot lately.
"No, it doesn't bother me. Because you're you. You're a person."
"No, it's fine." Mando has suspected a conversation like this might be coming; he can't ask Bo-Katan to not talk about their world, and now Shadowmaru is getting a different perspective, one that might not be as favourable and glossed over at the one Mando has given him.
"We can talk about it all you want. If it's making you feel bad, I want to hear about it."
"Not necessarily." This is more familiar ground for Mando, and he has an answer ready. "I've been walking around knowing I'm an apostate because I took my helmet off back home and people saw my face. No one would have known if I didn't tell them, but I did, and I was told I wasn't a Mandalorian anymore."
He sits up, cradling the communicator between his hands. "Questioning your identity isn't fun for anyone. And I think it matters most how you feel about it."
[And they threw him out? How - how vile of them! Listen, he knows your people have rules, and he will respect them, but also? He wants to throw hands.]
I'm not sure.
Not sure HOW I feel.
I have not watched this episode in AWHILE, so forgive me if he's getting the details wrong
"I snuck into a mining camp, and had to make a choice to take my helmet off or lose the upper hand while getting attacked." Mando's voice gets steely. "I was able to save the kid and everyone else there with me because I took it off. I made the right choice."
And he'd make it again, if he had to.
"That's fine. You've got all the time in the world to figure it out. And my opinion of you isn't going to change while you work on things."
Absolutely not! He is not a compliment-taking man!
“You already wake me up in the middle of the night for other things sometimes.” Mando’s voice is warm and impossibly fond. “I can handle a little midnight introspection.”

Or not, he's wearing a helmet so it's cool.
"Yes, but also no." Mando thinks on it for a moment. "You'd be lightyears beyond what the droids in my world can do. They can only do what they're programmed for. They can't think and feel and learn new things the way you can. You'd be something different."

[The little cursor types. Then stops. Then starts. It happens a few times.]
And they have no culture. Nothing of their own. Yes?
Does it bother you? Knowing there are similarities between myself and those robots?

You said as much, that day you came by my cottage. You were very insistent on it, as I remember.
I'm ... sorry to bring this up. It's been on my mind.

It should be enough that someone I care for reassures me. Should it not?

me either man you're good
You truly need to stop wondering why I consider you my knight. You go to such great lengths for your child... You're a wonder.
[The dokis are strong here.]
Thank you. I apologize for all of the introspection of late.

It was mostly the kid. Poor Bill Barr would be dead in an alley somewhere if it wasn't for the kid.
"No." Mando's tone is firm, brooking no argument. "You don't have anything to apologise for, so don't. You introspect all you need."

[He won't do that. You can't make him. Take a compliment from your BF, Mando!!]
Haha. As you wish. I'll be sure to wake you in the middle of the night for my questions.

Ahaha, I suppose I do, don't I?
Thank you. As always... you're a wonderful sounding board.

[Yep. See you soon.]
